What is TikTok Live GMV Max?
You run livestreams, and the GMV Max notes you find keep dividing non-LIVE sales by ad cost. That ratio belongs to product campaigns. Live GMV Max is TikTok Shop's automated GMV Max campaign for livestreams. It optimizes live room gross revenue against ad spend while the campaign runs. TikTok reserves it for shops that livestream regularly. A shop that sells through product videos starts with Product GMV Max.

Promote LIVE is the livestream campaign
Both campaign types start in Seller Center at Shop Ads, then Create GMV Max ads. Choose Promote LIVE when the ad is for a livestream. Choose Promote products for the catalog, and follow that path in How to set up a GMV Max campaign.
TikTok's US advertising guide says this live campaign uses the livestream itself as the ad creative. Sellers can also upload short videos, and the ones that help are the clips with the same host and the same products as the room. Product campaigns use videos that already have a product anchor link. Those videos come from the shop account, from business and authorized accounts, and from affiliate Spark Ads posts. The affiliate program guide explains how sellers get those posts.
Live GMV Max vs Product GMV Max
The US guide splits the two by the sales you are trying to grow. New sellers are told to begin with the product campaign, because that one is aimed at overall shop GMV through in-feed video, search, the shop tab and product cards. Shop GMV is that broader sales figure. The live campaign is for Live GMV, and the guide says only shops that run livestreams should use it.
| Point | Live GMV Max | Product GMV Max |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Raise Live GMV | Maximize overall shop GMV, through in-feed video, search, the shop tab and product cards |
| Who | Regular livestreams with Live GMV above $1,000 a week | New sellers growing total shop revenue |
| ROI | Gross revenue from the live room, divided by ad cost | Non-LIVE GMV of the selected products, divided by ad cost |
| What counts | Orders placed in the room while the campaign is active | Same-day orders for promoted products, even when the buyer did not click or view an ad |
The live row puts room revenue over ad cost, and the product row puts non-LIVE sales of the selected listings over ad cost. A note that divides non-LIVE sales by ad cost belongs with the product campaign. Indonesia's LIVE GMV Max page defines LIVE ROI as total live room GMV divided by total ad spend.
What Live GMV Max optimizes
On Indonesia's LIVE GMV Max page the optimization goal is labeled Gross revenue, and the bid field is a LIVE ROI target.
For a new seller, or a new product or live room, the US guide suggests Max Delivery, which prioritizes GMV over ROI. The same cold-start note suggests running that mode for 5 to 7 days, or starting near 1.5 to 2.0. Those are TikTok's figures for that new-room case.
Is GMV Max worth it for your shop? spells out the historical non-LIVE formulas: past product sales divided by past ad cost, and a spend limit built from those sales. Use those formulas for the product campaign. The live form takes the LIVE ROI target you enter, and the non-LIVE ratio stays with the product campaign.
The GMV Max ROAS planner turns one product order into a break-even return, using your cost and the shop fees. It prices that product order. A livestream target is still the LIVE ROI field on the live campaign.
Attribution inside the live room

TikTok's attribution article counts paid and organic conversions in the LIVE event you selected. Orders from every shop during that event count, including shops that were not used to set up the campaign. If someone leaves the LIVE and then places the order, that order is left out.
A viewer who pays while the stream is still open can land in the total, and so can an order from another shop during that same event, even when that shop was not the one you picked at setup. A viewer who closes the livestream and then orders is left out of the campaign total. On a product campaign the window is different: the worth-it guide's attribution section covers same-day orders that count with no ad click.
Public seller threads are mostly about product campaigns. People there describe a dashboard return that looks strong while total units barely move, and some suggest pausing the spend and watching total units. Those are unverified shop reports. They are a reason to compare room sales with the live ROI, because that article counts orders in the room for the event you selected.
When to run Live GMV Max alongside a product campaign
The US guide recommends this campaign for a shop that already livestreams on a regular schedule and clears $1,000 a week in Live GMV. A new shop stays on the product campaign while it is still growing total revenue, and that campaign is the one that needs a supply of anchor-link videos.
Run them as separate campaigns, with room revenue in the live return and non-LIVE product sales in the product return. One target for both would put those two sales figures in the same ratio.
Indonesia's live page lists Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. On that page, an advertiser who is already running a LIVE shopping ad or a GMV Max campaign has to turn it off before creating a new LIVE GMV Max campaign.
How to create a TikTok live GMV Max campaign
Indonesia Seller University lists the steps in this order. It calls the ROI field Bid Strategy and tells you to enter the LIVE ROI target to maximize delivery and performance.
- Open Shop Ads.
- Click Create GMV Max ads.
- Click Promote LIVE.
- Choose the TikTok account that has the LIVE you want to promote.
- Under optimization goal, choose Gross revenue.
- Enter a LIVE ROI target.
- Enter a daily budget and a schedule.
- Click Publish.
The product setup guide explains how to switch the GMV Max ad account. TikTok's product setup article lists Product GMV Max in the United States, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. The Indonesia live page lists availability for the six countries named above. The comparison for US sellers is in the US advertising guide.
Schedule the ad across the stream
Indonesia's Live Ads Set Up page says to schedule the ad about two weeks ahead, and to cover at least two hours of the livestream. It says a shorter session may underdeliver, so the booked hours should cover at least that much of the stream.
Live GMV Max and a custom LIVE Shopping Ad
The same Live Ads Set Up page shows a second way to buy a live placement. In Seller Center, open Shop Ads and click Create Custom Ads. In TikTok Ads Manager, select Product Sales as the objective and Shop as the product source, then choose LIVE Shopping Ads as the type.
Promote LIVE, with the LIVE ROI target, is the GMV Max path on the Indonesia live page. LIVE Shopping Ads under Product Sales is the custom path on the Live Ads Set Up page. Shop figures outside Seller Center are on the TikTok Shop analytics tools list, and the rest of the seller guides are on the guides hub.
My take
I'd start with Live GMV Max when the shop already livestreams regularly and clears TikTok's weekly Live GMV threshold. I'd skip it for a new shop until that livestream is on the calendar.
I'd judge a live result by room sales next to the ROI, since the attribution article counts orders inside the event. The guide on whether GMV Max is worth funding covers the product campaign's fees. Read it if you are keeping the product campaign.
