### How the calculator works

* **Profit per sale** \= price − TikTok fee (fee rate × price) − creator commission (commission × price) − product and shipping cost.
* **Sample spend** \= cost of one sample × number of creators.
* **Break-even sales** \= sample spend ÷ profit per sale, rounded up.
* **Net return** \= expected sales × profit per sale − sample spend. **ROI** \= net return ÷ sample spend.

The TikTok fee rate comes from the same shared table as the [fee and profit calculator](/calculators/tiktok-shop-fee-calculator), read from TikTok Shop's seller help pages. The hard number to guess is expected sales. Start with a cautious figure, since many sampled creators never post, and rerun it with your real numbers after the first batch.

How many sales does a free sample need to pay for itself? 

Divide what the sample cost you (product plus postage) by your profit on each sale after TikTok's fee and the creator's commission. The calculator does this for you.

What commission rate should I offer creators?

Are creator sample orders charged a refund fee? 

In the US, TikTok does not charge its refund administration fee on creator sample orders refunded under buy now, refund later.
